GREENWOOD, S.C. — Jack Clough tallied a career-high five goals and two assists and Belmont Abbey added four goals an assist as the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team rallied for a 15-13 victory over Lander Wednesday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.
Trailing 13-12 in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders rallied with three goals over the final six minutes to come back and take the game from the Bearcats.
Wednesday's contest was the final nonconference game for the Abbey.
With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 6-3 on the season while Lander is now 4-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clough tallied the first two goals for the Crusaders, including one in the opening minute of the contest.
- Jack Polhill and Brendan Boschi added goals to give Belmont a 4-1 lead before Lander closed the quarter with a pair of goals.
- Lorenzo scored three goals in the second quarter, including one late in the first half to give the Crusaders an 8-7 lead going into halftime.
- Clough added a goal in the third quarter as did Jeremy Mahoney and Xavier Miller.
- Trailing by 1, Clough's fifth goal tied the game at 13-all and he assisted on Mahoney's goal that put the Abbey up 14-13 with 3:57 remaining.
- Boschi capped the scoring 53 seconds later with his second goal.
- Eddie Kielkopf finished with nine saves.
- Matthew Peterson led the team with five caused turnovers and was second on the team with five ground balls.
- Polhill had seven ground balls for the Abbey in the win.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders return to Conference Carolinas play to face Young Harris on Saturday.
- The opening faceoff is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
