Early Offensive Flurry Lifts Crusaders Past Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. — Brendan Boschi finished with a season-high nine points as the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team had 15 different players score a goal as the Crusaders defeated Chowan 29-4 Saturday afternoon from Hawks Field.

Boschi matched his season-high with five goals and added four assists while Tristan Koumentakos scored four. Garrett Clare, Nate Lorenzo and Connor Brewington had three goals each while Jeremey Mahoney rounded out the group with multiple goals on the afternoon.

Eddie Kielkopf made one save in the first half of play to earn the win in goal.

With Saturday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 5-3 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play. Chowan is now 4-4 overall, 1-2 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clare and Mahoney got the offensive attack going for the Abbey with the first two goals and assists, respectively.
  • After Chowan answered to make it 2-1, the Crusaders rattled off 18 unanswered goals in the first half.
  • Boschi and Brewington scored three each in the first quarter and Boschi added three assists in the second quarter.
  • Lorenzo opened the second half with the first two Crusader goals of the period.
  • The Crusaders closed out the game with six more goals in the fourth quarter.
  • Kendall Marcucilli, Brady McDonough, Tristan Perez, Jack Polhill and Jake Tobin all scored their first goals of the season for the Crusaders in the contest.
  •  Belmont Abbey finished with 60 shots, 41 on goal, compared to 15 and 7 for Chowan.
  • Michael Aber went 18 of 22 on faceoffs while Jake Tobin went 7 of 10.
  • John Valetto led Belmont Abbey with five ground balls.
  • Five Crusaders had multiple caused turnovers including Valetto, Polhill, Garren Berkman, Gavin Mott and Justin Murray.
