FLORENCE, S.C. — Leigha Dennison finished with a team-high 19 points to lead the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team but a furious fourth-quarter comeback proved to be the difference as the Crusaders fell 70-61 Saturday afternoon at the Smith University Center.
Dennison finished with 19 point, five rebounds and four steals while
Kallie Lusk had 18 points and six rebounds.
Sofia McNabb added 10 points off the bench to go with five rebounds.
The game was a rematch of last season's Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship game. The Crusaders led by 14 points entering the final quarter before the Patriots outscored the Abbey 31-8 to complete the comeback.
Belmont Abbey is now 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the conference after Saturday's result. Francis Marion is 14-7 overall, 11-2 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders jumped out to a fast start with a 14-5 run in the opening six minutes of the contest.
- Belmont Abbey took advantage of free throws early, going 8-of-9 in the first quarter.
- Francis Marion got within four points late in the first half but a Dennison 3-pointer and three free throws from Kallie Lusk helped push the Abbey lead back to 10.
- Kallie Lusk finished 12-of-13 from the free throw line in the contest.
- A 7-0 run midway through the third quarter helped Belmont Abbey extend the lead to 15 and led by as many as 16 points in the quarter.
- The Patriots opened the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run and took the lead with just over three minutes remaining.
- McNabb made a pair of free throws to make it 57-51 before Francis Marion closed the game on a 19-4 run.
- Riley James led the team with six assists.
- Madison Lusk also had four steals along with Dennison.

- The Crusaders will look to bounce back as they head on the road to face North Greenville on Tuesday.
- Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. from Tigerville, S.C.
- A Belmont Abbey win would clinch the Northwest Division as well as a top four seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
