BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team captured the 2026 Conference Carolinas Developmental Championship Monday with a 60-38 win over Young Harris Monday evening at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders earned the title after earning two wins in the tournament.
The first came in a 60-27 win over Ferrum in which the Crusaders held the Panthers to just 10 points in the first half.
Sydney Martin and
Valeria Batista both recorded double-doubles in the win. Martin finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Batista had 10 points and 10 rebounds herself.
Additionally,
Katie Story and Anijah Jones had eight points each. Story led the Abbey with four assists while Jones had five assists.
In the championship game, Belmont Abbey pulled away in the second half by outscoring the Mountain Lions 18-5. Martin finished with a game-high 22 points with three rebounds and two blocks while
Reagan Iovino had 12 points, all of which came from 3-point range.
Emily Driver also finished in double figured with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists while
Claire Griffin had seven points, eight assists and three steals.
Young Harris finished 2-1 in the tournament defeating Mount Olive 67-49 in the opening game and 67-65 to Barton in the semifinals.
Martin was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after a pair of strong performances.
