BELMONT, N.C. --
Franklin Davis scored 17 points and
Daniel Lubamba just missed a double-double, leading Belmont Abbey to an 80-69 victory over Converse in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Wednesday night.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-13 overall and 4-9 in league play, while the Valkyries fall to 6-11, 4-8. The Abbey maintains a share of the Northwest Division lead with North Greenville with a 4-2 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davis hit five of six three-pointers and had another basket for his 17 points. He also chipped in three assists and three blocked shots.
- Lubama tallied 16 points and added nine rebounds, while Myles Smith and Lex Van den Bergh added 10 points each.
- The Crusaders used a 16-0 run to turn a 14-9 deficit into a 25-14 lead at the midpoint of the first half. The scoring surge was the biggest of the season.
- Belmont Abbey went 12 of 25 from three-point range. It marked the fourth time this year that the Crusaders had 10 or more threes.
- The Crusaders held Converse's Will Fowler scoreless in the contest. He entered the game averaging a team-high 21.1 points per game.
