BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey fell behind two sets to one, but rallied in the fourth and fifth sets for a 3-2 (25-12, 23-25, 15-25, 25-16, 15-5) victory over Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Tuesday night.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Bobcats fall to 4-8, 1-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zach Puentes and Caden Day each posted 15 kills. Puentes had just three errors in 28 attempts (.429), while Day hit .375.
- Puentes added three services aces, four blocks and five digs.
- JIbriel Elhaddad connected at a .500 clip with nine kills against two errors in 14 chances. He also had three digs and a block assist.
- Freshman Gabriel Nejad, making his first career start and second career appearance, posted a double-double of 42 assists and 13 digs.
- Maxwell Imig shared the team high for blocks (four) with Puentes, while Leyton Ritchie added three.
- Belmont Abbey hit over .462 in each of the three sets it won -- .524 in the first (14k-3e-21a), .500 in the fourth (15k-3e-24a) and .462 in the fifth (7k-1e-13a).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three straight games on the road, Belmont Abbey returns home for five straight matches.
- The run begins Saturday night at 6 p.m. against conference rival King.
