BELMONT, N.C. -- Franklin Davis scored a career-high 28 points, hitting eight three-pointers, to lead Belmont Abbey to a 78-42 victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action Monday night. The contest was originally scheduled to be played on January 31 but was postponed by an ice storm.
With the win, the Crusaders improved to 7-16 overall and 5-12 in league play, while Erskine falls to 0-22, 0-16.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Davis hit 10 of 17 shots overall and eight of 15 from beyond the arc. His point and three-point totals were the most by a Crusader this season.Â
- Judah Ravenell was the only other player to reach double figures with 11 points with all but one player tallying at least three points.
- Daniel La Bamba tied for the team lead in rebounding with seven while dishing out a career-high six assists. He fell just short of double-digit scoring with eight pointsÂ
- Freshman Liberty Fusire grabbed seven rebounds in 21 minutes, both career highs. He added five points.
- As a team, The Abbey hit 15 three-pointers, topping a previous high of 13 against Clinton back in December. Ten of the threes came in the second half.
- Holding a 10-point lead at the half, 33-22, the Crusaders exploded for 46 points to the Flying Fleet's 20 after intermission. They hit 51.7% from the field (15-of-29).
- The 42 points by an opponent marked the best defensive effort of the season by 19 points. Belmont Abbey limited Virginia-Lynchburg to 61 points on December 1.
