BELMONT, N.C. -- Renato Bolado and Tyler Case posted double-doubles and Lola Sultenfuss reach double figures in kills and Belmont Abbey earned a 3-2 (25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-6) upset victory over Northwest Division leader Converse in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Wednesday night.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 9-8 overall and 4-6 in Conference Carolinas play, while Converse falls to 11-8, 9-2.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bolado led the offensive attack with 18 kills, hitting .357. She also made 13 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.
- Case hit .469 with 16 kills against one error, while adding three service aces. Her 18 digs.gives her six double-doubles in 2026.
- Lola Sultenfuss added 11 kills, hitting .346, while also making seven blocks.
- Emma Youngblood just missed a double-double with 43 assists and nine digs.
- Belmont Abbey hit .309 as a team, recording 58 kills on 152 attacks with just 11 errors. The Crusaders also finished with 77 digs and 13.0 team blocks.
- The Abbey controlled the opening set, hitting .444 with 13 kills and just one error in a 25-14 victory. Belmont Abbey led 13-7 midway through the set before closing on a 12-7 run.
- Converse answered by taking the second set 25-21, but Belmont Abbey regained control in the third. The Crusaders hit .345 and scored the final three points of the set to take a 25-19 win.
- After Converse forced a fifth set with a 25-22 fourth-set win, Belmont Abbey jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the deciding set. Later, Case served back-to-back aces to make it 13-5, and Bolado closed the match with her 18th kill.
