BELMONT, N.C. -- Three Crusaders posted double-doubles but Belmont Abbey dropped a 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23) decision to UNC Pembroke Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Center.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 8-8 overall and 3-6 in Conference Carolinas play, while UNC Pembroke improves to 13-6 and 8-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rolado Bolado registered 12 kills and 17 digs for her ninth double-double of the year, including fifth straight.
- Tyler Case had 10 kills and 15 digs for her fifth double-double.
- Emma Youngblood posted 39 assists, five kills and 13 digs, while Sheridan Young led all players with a career-high 26 digs.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 52 kills and a .139 hitting percentage, while the Braves recorded 54 kills and hit .180. The Crusaders held an 81-73 advantage in digs,
- The Abbey built leads of 12-5 and 22-16 in the opening set, but UNC Pembroke rallied to tie the score at 23-all. The Crusaders took a 25-24 lead before the Braves scored the final three points to win 27-25.
- The Abbey answered in the second set, rallying from an 18-13 deficit to pull even at 22-all. Bolado then recorded back-to-back kills to put Belmont Abbey ahead 24-23 before Sultenfuss closed out the 25-23 victory.
- UNC Pembroke took control of the third set with a 7-1 run that turned a 5-5 tie into a 12-6 advantage. The Crusaders battled back within 20-16, but the Braves finished the set 25-20.
- The Braves opened the fourth set with a 4-0 lead and later held a 16-10 advantage. Belmont Abbey rallied to tie the set at 21-all, but UNC Pembroke scored four of the final six points to secure the 25-23 victory.
