BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey dropped the opening set, but surged back with the next three, defeating North Greenville 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20) in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Center.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. It was the first Northwest Division action for Belmont Abbey, while the Trailblazers fall to 5-7, 3-3, 0-2.
Belmont Abbey has now claimed victory in seven of the last eight contests and remains undefeated at home, all three games this week.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders turned in one of its best overall performances of the year and have already surpassed their win total of seven during the 2024 campaign.
- Katie Brookins tallied 15 kills to lead the team for the second straight match -- she had a career-best 17 last night. She hit .205 with seven errors in 39 attempts.
- Renata Bolado and Emma Youngblood both notched double-doubles for the second time in as many days. Bolado's 13 kills and 10 digs was her fifth of the year, while Youngblood topped the plateau with 35 assists and a career-high 16 digs. It was her fourth of 2025 and her career.
- Maya Swenson and Sheridan Young added ninth digs each with Swenson also serving two aces.
- The Abbey recorded 11 aces as a team -- one off its season high. Bolado had four with Youngblood adding four. Mallory Swain, Mary Grace Hogue and Kyleigh Coghlan each recorded one.
- Chloe Lowder was the blocks leader with a career-best seven (three solo).
