WILSON, N.C. -- Sarah Schumaker and
Nicki Jonkers scored two goals each during a four-goal second half, helping the Crusaders to a 5-0 win at Barton in South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey action Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders had led just 1-0 at intermission after goal five minutes into the contest.
With its fourth straight win, The Abbey improves to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in league play, The Bulldogs fall to 0-6, 0-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Schumaker, a defender, has now scored two goals in each of the last two contests and had five on the year. She had just three total over her first two seasons.
- Grace Hines tallied the only goal of the first 30 minutes at the 4:47 mark, when she took a pass from Cecilia Muller.
- Schumaker doubled the lead midway through the third quarter before Nicki Jonkers made the score 3-0 just five seconds before the end of the period.
- Schumaker converted again at 51:03 with Jonkers capping the scoring with her second with just 3:18 remaining in the contest.
- Schumaker was the team's shot leader with 10, seven on goal. The Crusaders outshot Barton 33-1 overall and had 14 penalty corners to none for the Bulldogs.
- Lily Willard and Annmarie Mullen shared goalkeeping duties over the two halves. Williard made the only save.
