HARTSVILLE, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey field hockey team earned its third consecutive win thanks to a 5-0 victory over Coker Wednesday afternoon at the Coker Athletic Field.
Hailey Leatherman tallied two goals and an assist while
Sarah Schumacher added two goals as well.
Avery Bourke also scored a goal for the second straight game while
Annmarie Mullen made two saves and earned her first career shutout in the process.
Belmont Abbey improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play following Wednesday's results. Coker is now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders got out in front early when Schumacher scored the first of her two goals 3:24 into the contest.
- Belmont Abbey took eight shots in the first quarter and held Coker to just one shot in the first half.
- The Abbey broke the game open in the second quarter with three goals in the period.
- Leatherman got it started less than a minute into the second quarter while Schumacher and Bourke added goals later in the quarer.
- Chole Kiser had two assists in the first half while Jillian Cain and Hailey Leatherman each had one.
- Leatherman capped the scoring in the third quarter with her second goal off the assist from Sophia Coleman. The assist was the first of Coleman's career.
- Belmont Abbey had 15 penalty corners compared to three for the Cobras.
- The Crusaders had 25 shots with 17 on goal compared to five and two, respectively, for Coker.
