BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team found itself in a close contest with Northwest Division foe North Greenville Saturday evening at Alumni Field.
Despite out-shooting the Trailblazers 20-8, the Crusaders dropped a 1-0 contest to NGU. A penalty kick goal for North Greenville in the second half proved to be the difference.
With Saturday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Conference Carolina play. North Greenville is 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey came out aggressively in the first half with five shots.
- The defense was also strong by not allowing a shot in the first 45 minutes.
- Sam Jordan, Darren Lawlor and Pat Hissim each had two shots on goal in the match. Jordan had six shots overall while Lawlor and Hissim had three each.
- North Greenville drew a foul in the 68th minute that resulted in a penalty kick. The Trailblazers converted and that proved to be the difference.
- The Crusaders took four shots in the final 10 minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
- Trent McConnaughey finished with one save on the evening.
