BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team extended its match-winning streak to three thanks to a 2-0 victory over King Wednesday afternoon at Parks Field.
The Crusaders tallied goals in each half and
Trent McConnaughey recorded his third straight shutout in the first Northwest Division contest for the Abbey.
Belmont Abbey improves to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play. King is now 2-1-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Austin Ball took the first shot of the match in the third minute.
- The Crusaders took the lead in the 28th minute thanks to the first goal of the seasonfrom Alex Oropeza. Daniel Alvarenga was credited with the assist.
- McConnaughey's lone save of the match came in the closing seconds of the first half.
- The Crusaders had taken only one shot in the second half before Ömer Gülmez capped the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 79th minute.
- It is the second goal of the season for Gülmez, both coming on penalty kicks.
- The Abbey took eight shots in the match compared to six for King. Five of the eight shots were on target from the Crusaders.
