BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team was locked in a close battle with Lander Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.
Anna Richard tallied her first goal of the season but it was Lander who came away with the 2-1 victory over the Crusaders. Both teams entered the match ranked in the latest Southeast Regional rankings from United Soccer Coaches. Lander was No. 7 in the rankings while Belmont Abbey was No. 10.
With Wednesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 1-2 on the season while Lander is 2-0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lander got on the board first with a goal in the 13th minute to take an early lead.
- Addie Galek took the first shot of the match for the Abbey.
- Richard's goal came midway through the first half via an assist from Erin Walker.
- Walker recorded her first collegiate point with the assist.
- Lander regained the lead in the 30th minute with the second goal of the half.
- Ryleigh Dougherty made four saves in goal for the Crusaders.
- Belmont Abbey held an 11-9 advantage in shots while both teams had six shots on goal.
- The Crusaders made a push late in the contest but the final shot went wide in the closing seconds.
