AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Belmont Abbey baseball team used an eight-run ninth inning to pull away for a 19-10 win over Augusta Wednesday evening at Jaguars Field. The contest marked Belmont Abbey's final road game of the regular season.
The Crusaders cranked out 17 hits, including four from
Todd Velotta while
Connor Powell drove in four runs as the team extended its winning streak to three games.
Belmont Abbey also used six pitchers in the contest with
Ethan Yarbrough recording his second win of the season.
With Wednesday's results, Belmont Abbey improves to 31-14 overall. Augusta is now 10-33 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to a fast start as the Crusaders scored four runs in the first inning.
- Connor Tucker reached on an error that allowed two Crusaders to score and later scored on a double steal. Caleb Burr scored on a wild pitch.
- Augusta took the lead with a five-run second inning.
- Joe Whitaker would help Belmont Abbey regain the lead twice over the fourth and fifth innings with a two-run home run and an RBI single, respectively.
- Jackson Risk added a two-run triple to make it 9-7.
- Augusta recaptured the lead with a three-run home run in the sixth.
- Powell gave Belmont Abbey the lead for good thanks to a two-run single in the seventh inning to make it 11-10. He later drove in two runs in the ninth inning to start the scoring surge.
- Connor Tucker added a two-run single while Caleb Burr hit his team-leading 12th home run with a three-run shot.
- Michael Fattore capped the scoring with an RBI single.
- Carson Dahle, Jacob Larkins and Blake Hanly all combined to shut out the Jaguars over the final three innings.
