Strong Pitching Lifts Abbey Baseball to Doubleheader Sweep over King

BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey baseball team used a pair of strong starts from Spencer Cipro and Ethan Wilson as the Crusaders completed a doubleheader sweep of King Friday afternoon at Abbey Yard.

The Crusaders took the first game 3-2 before earning a 7-1 victory in the second game. The series shifted due to a doubleheader Friday due to forecasted inclement weather.

Cipro pitched a career-high 7.2 innings and allowed just two runs in the opening game while Wilson pitched five plus innings for his sixth win of the season.

Caleb Burr and Todd Velotta each led the way offensively for the Crusaders with four hits on the day.

Belmont Abbey improves to 33-14 overall and 20-9 in Conference Carolinas play. King is now 14-34 overall, 8-21 in the league.
