Four Crusaders Tally Three-Hit Days in Victory at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. — Four Belmont Abbey baseball players tallied three-hit days and three of those Crusaders hit home runs as the Abbey defeated Mars Hill 13-7 Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field.

Carter DuHaime, Connor Powell, Jackson Risk and Caleb Burr all finished with three hits on the day for Belmont Abbey with DuHaime driving in four runs on the afternoon.

Seth Edgerton earned his second win of the season by pitching five plus innings and recording five strikeouts.

With Tuesday's result, Belmont Abbey improves to 30-14 on the season while Mars Hill is 12-32.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless first inning, Belmont Abbey got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Joe Whitaker to bring in Burr, who led off with a single.
  • Belmont Abbey surged ahead in the third inning with a two-run double from Connor Tucker and capped with a three-run home run from DuHaime.
  • Mars Hill got closer with three runs in the fifth inning but the Crusaders answered with a six
  • The first was a leadoff home run from Risk followed by a three-run home run by Powell.
  • DuHaime and Risk added RBI singles in the frame to make it a 12-3 game.
  • The Lions added two runs in the sixth and seventh innings taking advantage on three Crusaders errors during that span.
  • Todd Velotta capped the scoring in the ninth with an RBI single to make it 13-7.
  • Layton Dickerson and Jacob Larkins pitched two innings each to close out the game with Larkins allowing just one hit in his relief appearance.
  • The Crusaders finished the game with eight extra base hits and turning two double plays.
  • It is the fifth time this season that Belmont Abbey has recorded 17 hits in a single game.

UP NEXT

  • The Crusaders travel to Augusta to face the Jaguars at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the final game before the Easter break.
