Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C. — For the first time in program history, the Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team has earned at least a share of a Conference Carolinas regular season title.
The Crusaders earned a share following their 20-10 victory over North Greenville Monday evening at Pepsi Stadium.
The win also clinches the No. 1 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and the Crusaders will await the quarterfinal winner of the No. 4 and 5 seeds of the conference tournament. The seeding will be finalized after the conclusion of the regular season this week.
Olivia Carlino finished with seven goals while
Triniti Cassidy finished with eight points (five goals and three assists).
Katelyn Miller also tallied four goals for the Crusaders.
Summer Eddinger earned the win with five saves in goal.
With Monday's result, Belmont Abbey is 8-7 and 7-1 in league play. North Greenville closes its regular season with a 7-9 overall record and 5-3 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first quarter with Carlino, Cassidy, Olivia Ritchie and Abba Walsh scoring goals.
- Walsh also tallied an assist in the opening quarter.
- Belmont Abbey led by as many as six goals in the second quarter and led 10-6 at the half.
- The Abbey outscored NGU 5-1 in the third quarter with Carlino and Cassidy scoring or assisting on all five goals.
- Belmont Abbey closed out the game scoring the final three goals of the contest.
- The Crusaders outshot the Trailblazers 33-26 and 28-15 on goal.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 27 ground balls with four each begin recorded by Carlino and Elizabeth Hommel.
- Carlino and Hommel also had two caused turnovers each.
- Emerson Sheyda and Kacey Kubarewicz also tallied goals for the Abbey. Addyson Greenspan and Abbey McCarthy also had an assist.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders close the regular season with a nonconference contest at Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday.
