YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. — The Belmont Abbey baseball team went on the road to open a pivotal three-game series at Young Harris Friday evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Crusaders had six hits but it was the Mountain Lions who came away with the 11-0 win. The game started an hour later than scheduled due to inclement weather.
With Friday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 28-13 overall and 17-8 in Conference Carolinas play. Young Harris is 29-11 overall and 16-6 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Todd Velotta and Connor Tucker had the first two hits of the day for Belmont Abbey in the first inning.
- Belmont Abbey had the bases loaded in the second but were unable to bring runners across.
- Young Harris took the lead in the third inning with a pair of solo home runs in the frame.
- The Mountain Lions added two more runs in the fifth inning.
- Caleb Burr and Jackson Risk recorded hits in the sixth inning for the Crusaders.
- YHC broke the game open with six runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.
- Michael Fattore recorded the other hit for the Crusaders in the ninth inning.
- Drew Stegura took the loss for Belmont Abbey as he struck out five in six innings.
- Jacob Larkins struck out three in 1.1 innings of relief.
