GAFFNEY, S.C. — Ryan Weller tallied a career-high six strikeouts in six innings of relief as the Belmont Abbey baseball team took on Limestone in a mid-week game Tuesday at FCU Founders Stadium.
The Crusaders fell behind early and rallied before Limestone took a 5-4 win on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Three Crusaders had two hits each in the contest.
With Tuesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 12-7 overall while Limestone is now 9-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders faced an early deficit as Limestone put up four runs in the top of the first inning.
- Belmont Abbey began to chip away in the second inning with an RBI from Connor Powell after Jack Boyles scored on an error.
- Weller pitched a scoreless six innings and allowed just three hits on 69 pitches.
- The Crusaders got back within a run after a two-run single by Todd Velotta in the sixth.
- An RBI double from Jackson Risk in the eighth brought the game to tie the game at 4-4.
- The Crusaders had a runner on base to take the lead in the ninth but were unable to complete the rally.
- Limestone drew three consecutive walks in the ninth inning to take the win.
- Connor Tucker, Joe Whitaker and Risk had two hits each for the Abbey.
