Abbey Baseball Opens Conference Series at Barton

WILSON, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey baseball team opened up its three-game Conference Carolinas series at Barton Friday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Michael Fattore and Jake Bidoglio homered but it was Barton who came away with the 20-5 victory over the Crusaders.

With the result, Belmont Abbey is now 12-8 overall and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas play while Barton is now 14-7 overall and 8-2 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Barton scored the first two runs of three game with a run in the first inning and two more in the third.
  • Carter DuHaime recorded the first of his two hits with a two-out single in the third inning.
  • Michael Fattore got the Crusaders on the board in the fifth with a solo home run, his third of the year.
  • Barton broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning.
  • Caleb Burr drove in his team-best 23rd run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
  • Barton added nine runs in the next three innings.
  • Belmont Abbey scored three runs in the ninth thanks to a Landon Hahn RBI single and a two-run home run from Bidoglio.

  • The Crusaders conclude the series with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.
