Crusaders Celebrate Senior Day with 3-1 Win over Lees-McRae

BELMONT, N.C. -- Zach Puentes and Matthew Staskunas both reached double figures in kills and Ethan Rehmann tallied eight kills and nine blocks, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17) victory over Lees McRae in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Saturday afternoon. The match served as Senior Day for the seven members of the Class of 2025.

With the victory, Belmont Abbey improves to 12-8 overall and 10-2 in league play, while Bobcats fall to 3-21, 2-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Staskunas and Puentes finished with 10 kills each. Puentes hit .318 overall with just three errors in 22 chances. He also added three blocks, an assist, a service ace and one dig.
  • Rehmann did not have an error in 12 attempts for a hitting percentage of .667.
  • Seniors Zach Cramer and Jack Walsh split setting duties with 19 and 17 assists, respectively. Walsh served two of the team's six aces and had three blocks, while Cramer added three digs.
  • Ryan Charles also served a pair of aces and with a team-best 11 digs. The effort marked the fourth time this year he has topped double figures in kills, all in the last five outings.
  • Staskunas added seven digs and four blocks, while Christian Rodriguez had five digs.
  • Brian Knoerr, in this first career appearance as a libero, made a season-best four digs.
  • The seven seniors are Charles, Cramer, Knoerr, Rehmann, Rodriguez, Staskunas and Walsh.
