BELMONT, N.C. — Christian Tomei made 17 saves and the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team caused a season-high 13 turnovers as the Crusaders earned a 13-1 win over Young Harris Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The game served as the Conference Carolinas home opener for Belmont Abbey, who extended its win streak to five.
With Tuesday's results, Belmont Abbey improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play. Young Harris is now 4-6 overall, 2-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Young Harris got on the board first just over two minutes into the contest.
- Garrett Clare and Mikey Sweigart got Belmont Abbey on the board with the first two goals of the game to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Clare and Sweigart were the only Crusaders to score multiple goals on the day.
- The Crusaders broke the game open with seven goals in the second quarter with seven goals in the quarter.
- Tomei made 10 of his 17 saves in the second half of the contest.
- Alex Garcia, Coen Woodland and Tristan Koumentakos all scored their first goals of the season for the Crusaders in the win.
- Garcia also had four caused turnovers and five ground balls in the win.
- Jacob Chandler, Nate Lorenzo and Luc Danis all had two assists in the win.
- The 30 shots on goal was also a season high for the Crusaders.
