BELMONT, N.C. -- Matthew Staskunas tallied 13 kills and
Zach Puentes posted a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) win over Erskine in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 11-8 overall and 9-2 in league play. They are also guaranteed at least a home game in the conference tournament next month. Erskine falls to 8-12, 4-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Staskunas had just one error in 20 chances to hit .600 for the match. He added two blocks for 14.5, while adding two digs.
- Puentes' 12 kills came against four errors in 26 chances for a .308 hitting percentage while his dig total led the team.
- Aiden Acton came off the bench for seven kills after not having one over his first 21 career matches. He hit .429 (7k-1e-14a), while also while chipping in a dig, an assist and a block assist.
- Joseph Morris spearheaded the offense with 34 assists while making seven blocks and four digs.
- Zeke Jarzyniecki served two of the Crusaders' four aces. Puentes and Morris had the others.
- The Crusaders hit .390 as a team (40k-9e-82a), while limiting the Flying Fleet to a .068 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey, which started a string of four of its last five matches at home, has a week off before returning to action next Saturday.
- The Crusaders will celebrate Senior Day when they host Lees-McRae at 3 p.m.
