MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Caden Day tallied a season-high 15 kills and added six digs, but Mount Olive eked out a 3-0 (31-29, 25-21, 25-20 victory over Belmont Abbey in a battle of the top two teams in the Conference Carolinas men's volleyball standings.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 10-87 overall, 8-2 in league play, while the Trojans improve to 13-2, 8-0. The both matches between the teams were tightly-contested wins by UMO.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Day hit .345 with 15 kills against five errors in 29 attempts. He registered a block assist to go along with his digs. The junior has now reached double figures in kills three times this season, including two straight.
- Zach Puentes added eight kills, while Jibriel Elhaddad and Ryan Charles tallied six each.
- Puentes and Elhaddad shared blocking highs with three each, while Charles led the defensive effort with 11 digs.
- Joseph Morris dished out 35 assists and had two block, while serving a team-best three aces. He also added two blocks.
- After finishing the first set with a .333 hitting percentage, Belmont Abbey finished the contest at .242. The Trojans finished at .333, including a second-set high of .393.Â
