Crusaders in Contention at Bearcat Spring Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's golf team opened its spring schedule with the first 27 holes of the Bearcat Spring Invitational Monday at The Preserve at Verdae.
 
After the first completed round, the Crusaders stood in a tie for fifth with USC Aiken with a 5-over par team total of 293. It is part of a crowded leaderboard where seven teams are within seven shots of each other.
 
Belmont Abbey has a total of 12 golfers competing with seven of them competing as individuals. Based on the first completed round, Eduardo Arango (T-5th) and Max Newton (T-12th) were leading the way for the Crusaders with rounds of 1-under par and even par, respectively. Newton is one of the seven competing as an individual.
 
On the team side, Elian Infante shot a 1-over par 73 while Mariano Estebanez Rincon was 2-over par. Nick Norman and Will Muldoon rounded out the team with rounds of 74 and 76, respectively.
