FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — Drew Stegura pitched a strong seven innings for the Belmont Abbey baseball team but it was Emmanuel who rallied for a 6-5 win over the Crusaders in the series opener Friday afternoon at Tommy Carey Field.
Stegura allowed just one run and four hits and eight strikeouts in seven innings of work while four Crusaders had two hits on the afternoon.
Belmont Abbey is now 8-4 overall and 2-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Emmanuel is 8-5 with an identical 2-2 conference record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to an early lead with RBIs from Connor Tucker and Justin Herrera.
- Stegura allowed just one hit in the first three innings on the mound.
- Emmanuel got within 2-1 in the seventh with an RBI double but the Crusaders answered with a three-run eighth inning.
- Jackson Risk drove in two runs with a single while Jack Boyles drove in another run with a single of his own.
- Risk was one of the four Crusaders with two hits along with Tucker, Todd Velotta and Matthew Fattore.
- The Lions rallied in the eighth with three runs of their own and added two more in the ninth to walk-off the game on an RBI single.
