SALISBURY, N.C. -- Nate Lorenzo scored five goals and added an assist, but a late rally fell short as Catawba held off Belmont Abbey 13-11 in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
Jack Clough and
Jeremy Mahoney each tallied three points in the effort.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 1-2, while the Indians stay undefeated at 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Clough scored twice and helped on another with four others each tallying a goal.
- Mahoney chipped in two assists for his three points.
- Garrett Clare, Jacob Chandler and Mikey Sweigart rounded out the scoring.
- Ben Johnson led the defensive effort with four of the team's 31 ground balls.
- Christian Tomei made 18 saves in goal for The Abbey.
- Belmont Abbey led 7-5 midway through the second quarter when Catawba scored seven of the next eight goals, three before halftime for an 8-7 lead.
- After the teams traded goals to start the third, the Indians closed the quarter with three straight for an 11-7 advantage.
- Shots were nearly even at 46-41 in favor of Catawba, but the hosts took 31 on goal vs. 19 by the Crusaders.
