GREENVILLE, S.C. — Five Belmont Abbey wrestling earned spots on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team that was unveiled Friday by the league office.
Three wrestlers —
John Carayiannis (149),
Caleb Moore (197) and
Luke Kunath (141) — earned spots on the second team while
Maxwell Kiel (174) and
Elijah Boyd (133) were selected on the third team.
It is the third time that Kiel has earned all-conference honors and second straight year for Carayiannis while it is the first time that Kunath, Moore and Boyd have all been named all-conference.
Carayiannis put together another strong season for Belmont Abbey, finishing 12-2 on the year. He won seven matches by fall, four tech falls and another via major decision. He went 6-0 in Conference Carolinas play this season.
Kunath went 10-4 on the season that included a 6-1 record in Conference Carolinas action. He also earned a win over Joshua Viarengo of Division I Davidson this season and one win each via tech fall and major decision.
Moore put together an outstanding season at 197, finishing 14-2 overall and 6-1 in Conference Carolinas action. He was a runner-up at the Glenville State Invitational to open the season and had five pins and four wins via tech fall and another two major decisions.
This is the first time that Kiel has been named all-conference at 174 after earning spots at 157 the last two years. He finished with a 10-3 record on the season and was 6-0 in Conference Carolinas competition this season. He had one pin, two tech falls and four wins by major decision. Both he and Carayiannis will look to return to the NCAA National Championships in March.
At 133, Boyd went 13-4 on the season that also included a 6-0 mark in Conference Carolinas play. He earned four wins via major decision and one tech fall this season as the regular starter in his respective weight class.

The Crusaders return to the mat on Sunday to compete in the Conference Carolinas Tournament against the top seed from the West Division and host Lander. The tournament is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at Finis Horne Arena.
