NEWBERRY, S.C. -- Shane Potts and Judah Ravenell both topped double figures but a late 7-0 run lifted Newberry to a 66-59 victory over Belmont Abbey in men's college basketball action Wednesday night. The teams were tied at 59-59 with six minutes to play, when the Wolves tallied a jumper, three-pointer and two free throws in a span of 1:59 to pull away.
The contest was the season opener for the Crusaders, while the Wolves improve to 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Potts hit five of six from the field, including three of four from three-point range for 13 points.
- Ravenell made three baskets, including one from distance, but connected on six of seven free throws for his 13 points. He also led the team in rebounds with eight.
- The Abbey shot 37.0 percent from the field (20 of 54) but made just 25.0 percent (6 of 24) from beyond the arc.
- Rebounding was nearly even as the Crusader were minus-one (35 to 34)
