TIGERVILLE, S.C. — Marcos Frias scored his first goal of the season with just under four minutes remaining as the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team rallied to earn a 1-1 draw against Northwest Division leader North Greenville Tuesday evening at Pepsi Stadium. Frias scored after a late shot from
Darren Lawlor was saved but not secured as Frias was there to tap the ball in off the deflection.
The Crusaders overcame playing a man down for the majority of the second half to hand NGU its first non-winning result in Northwest Division play this season.
With Tuesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 3-3-3 overall and 2-3-3 in Conference Carolinas play after earning its second straight draw. North Greenville is now 6-2-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lawlor took the first of his three shots just over a minute into the contest.
- North Greenville's goal came in the 10th minute from Nicholas Vital.
- Trent McConnaughey made both of his saves in the first half.
- Both Abbey corner kicks came in the first 45 minutes.
- The Crusaders got two shots on goal in the first half but both of them were saved.
- Belmont Abbey outshot the Trailblazers 12-1 in the final 45 minutes.
- Pat Hissim led the Crusaders with five shots, three on target.
- After playing a man down for the final 30 minutes of the match, Frias found the back of the net with the tying goal.
