Jordan’s Strong Night Helps Lift Abbey to Win at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of play while Sam Jordan contributed on all four goals as the Crusaders defeated Conference Carolinas newcomer Ferrum 4-2 Friday evening at Penn-Roediger Field.

Jordan scored his first goal of the season to get the scoring started for the Abbey and added three more assists on the evening. He scored his first goal of the season along with Ethan Cain and Pat Hissim. Sam Reynolds also added his fifth goal of the season in the win.

Belmont Abbey improves to 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-3 in Conference Carolinas play. Ferrum is 3-4-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders came out on the attack early with a pair of shots and Jordan tallied his first goal of the season in the 7th minute.
  • The Panthers responded with an equalizer in the 12th minute.
  • Just over a minute later, Ethan Cain scored his first goal as a Crusader as the Abbey regained the lead.
  • Not even three minutes later, Belmont Abbey extended the lead with Sam Reynolds' team-best goal of the season in the 16th minute. Jordan was credited with assists on both goals.
  • The Crusaders extended the lead in the second half in the 60th minute as Pat Hissim scored his first goal of the year on another Jordan assist.
  • The Panthers added a late goal in the final two minutes of the match.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 16 shots, the second-most in a match this season. Jordan and Hissim led the team with three shots each.
  • The Crusaders had 11 corner kicks compared to just one for the Panthers.
  • Trent McConnaughey made one save in the match.

  • The Crusaders return home to face Lees-McRae in a Northwest Division match at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Alumni Field.
