WINGATE, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey field hockey team was locked team in a close battle with Wingate Tuesday evening at Graham Gill Field.
The Crusaders and Bulldogs were scoreless until the fourth quarter when a Wingate goal with just over five minutes remaining proved to be the difference in a 1-0 defeat for the Abbey.
With Tuesday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 5-4 overall and 5-2 in South Atlantic Conference play. Wingate is also 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the league.

- Jillian Cain had her shot on goal just over four minutes into the match.
- Lily Willard had four saves in the match for the Abbey.
- Wingate's goal came with just over five minutes remaining in the contest from Lauren Montgomery.
- Belmont Abbey finished with four penalty corners.
