BELMONT, N.C. — Senior midfielder
Addie Galek finished with her first brace as a Crusader while
Francesca Highton and
Sabrina Cunha earned a pair of assists each as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Converse on Homecoming Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Galek scored once in each half as the Crusaders earned a win on Homecoming for the third straight year. It was the second straight win overall for the Abbey.
With Saturday's result, the Crusaders improve to 6-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Converse is now 3-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.
In Northwest Division play, Belmont Abbey is 3-1 while Converse is 1-1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders withstood an early surge from the Valkyries as Ryleigh Dougherty made two saves early in the contest.
- Galek's goal came in the 28th minute off a double assist from Highton and Cunha. It was the first shot of the match for the Abbey.
- Both teams took six shots each in the first half.
- Galek added the second goal in the 63rd minute with the same combination of assists from Cunha and Highton.
- Dougherty preserved the shutout in the final 10 minutes by making her fourth and final save on a penalty kick.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Converse 17-9 for the match.
- The Crusaders had six corner kicks.
HOMECOMING COURT
- In between the men's and women's soccer matches, the 2025 Belmont Abbey homecoming court was recognized during a special ceremony.
- The Homecoming Court is as follows: Kyleigh Coghlan, Isabella Schrout, Mitchell Graveline, Louisa Fallon, Conner Nichols Alexis Burkhalter, Jibriel Elhaddad, John Hetzel, Hannah Martin and Irenge Nkere.
- Hetzel and Martin were crowned the Homecoming King and Queen.
