Long’s Brace Helps Abbey to 4-0 Win in Regular Season Finale

DUE WEST, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team finished off the regular season on a strong note as the Crusaders earned a 4-0 victory over Erskine Friday afternoon at Ralph Lundy Field.

Haley Long finished with a brace while Karis Peterson and Hanna Doerr added goals in the second half for the Abbey as it closes the regular season on a six-match winning streak and three shutouts in its last four contests. Anna Richárd added a pair of assists in the win.

With Friday's results, Belmont Abbey improves to 13-4-1 and 11-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Erskine closes the season with a 3-10-2 overall record and 2-10-1 record in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders got on the board early with Long's first goal off the assist from Anna Richárd in the 11th minute. It was the first shot of the contest for the Crusaders.
  • Belmont Abbey took 10 shots in the first half as it controlled the pace of play.
  • Peterson got on the score sheet early in the second half with her goal in the 50th minute of play. It is the second goal of the season for the senior.
  • Long added her second goal of the afternoon in the 73rd minute off the second assist from Richárd.
  • She finishes the regular season leading the team in goals (10) while Richárd leads the team in points (29) with eight goals and 13 assists.
  • Hanna Doerr capped the scoring off in the closing minutes with her second goal of the season on assist from Sabrina Cunha in the 88th minute.
  • Doerr and Cunha led the Crusaders with four shots each
  • The Crusaders finished with 22 shots for the match, 10 on target.
  • Ryleigh Dougherty and Gianna Carneglia combined for the shutout in goal for the Abbey.
  • The Crusaders held the Fleet to just three shots in the match.
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey will await its seeding in the Conference Carolinas Tournament that begins next week.
  • By winning the Northwest Division title, the Crusaders are guaranteed a top four seed.
  • The Crusaders will play at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8 at Alumni Field in the tournament quarterfinals.  
  • The full bracket will be unveiled following the conclusion of play Saturday.
