BELMONT, N.C. — Hannah Willis scored two goals while
Francesca Highton and
Addie Galek also scored as the No. 2 seed Belmont Abbey women's soccer team defeated the No. 7 seed Lees-McRae Bobcats 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders defeated Lees-McRae for the second time this season and advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals for the fifth straight season.
With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 14-4-1 overall while Lees-McRae closes its season with an 8-9-2 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ryleigh Dougherty made her lone save of the match in the ninth minute after Belmont Abbey had taken three shots on goal early in the match.
- The Crusaders got on the board in the 12th minute when Highton headed the ball in from Maris Toppin.
- Belmont Abbey kept the pressure up in the first half taking 12 shots compared to just one for Lees-McRae.
- Galek extended the Crusader lead to 2-0 when she chipped a ball over the Bobcat goalkeeper. Caroline Roche and Sabrina Cunha were credited with assists on the goal.
- Willis sealed the game for the Crusaders tallying two goals in the span of 2:15. Haley Long and Fina Mochi also earned assists on the two tallies.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 20 shots compared to just two for Lees-McRae.
- The Crusaders finished with nine corner kicks.
