SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey field hockey team went on the road for its final South Atlantic Conference match of the season at Converse Tuesday at Weisiger Stadium.
It was a close battle but it was the Valkyries came away with the 1-0 victory over the Crusaders. Belmont Abbey is now 9-6 overall and finished conference play with a 7-3 record. Converse is now 8-7 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Despite the defeat, Belmont Abbey clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SAC Conference Tournament by virtue of Newberry's defeat of Converse over the weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Belmont Abbey's first shot on goal came from Isabella Hite with just over four minutes left in the first quarter.
- Converse got its goal in the early seconds of the second quarter.
- Lily Willard made four of her five saves in the first half for the Crusaders.
- The Crusaders finished with seven shots total, five on target.
- Margaret Malcolm had two shots on goal to lead the Abbey.
- Belmont Abbey had seven penalty corners compared to six for Converse.

	- The Crusaders close the regular season with a nonconference contest at No. 3 Newberry on Friday.
