NEWBERRY, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey field hockey team went on the road to close out the regular season against No. 3 Newberry Friday evening at Setzler Field.
The Crusaders battled but it was the Wolves who came away with the 4-0 win. The game was a officially listed as a nonconference contest.
With Friday's result, Belmont Abbey finishes the regular season with a 9-7 overall record. Newberry finishes the regular season unbeaten at 16-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Newberry got two goals within a minute midway through the first quarter to take an early 2-0 lead.
- Lily Willard made five of her 10 saves in the second quarter to keep the score at 2-0 going into halftime.
- The Wolves added two more goals in the third quarter to cap the scoring.
- Eileen Schwab took two of the three Crusader shots with Avery Bourke taking the other one.
- The Crusaders finished with three penalty corners.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Tournament.
- They will play in the semifinals at 2 p.m. next Friday back at Newberry against the winner of No. 3 Lander and No. 6 Lincoln Memorial.
- The full conference tournament bracket will be unveiled following the conclusion of play Saturday.
