SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Marcos Frias scored two goals and
Sam Jordan had a four-point night as the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team battled to a 4-4 draw at Converse Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium.
It is the second time this season the Crusaders and Valkyries have played to a draw this season.
With Tuesday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 5-3-5 overall and 3-2-5 in Conference Carolinas play. Converse is now 5-5-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the league. The Northwest Division rivals are now 1-1-5 and 1-2-3, respectively, in the division.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just like the previous meeting, the Crusaders struck within the first minute of play as Sam Jordan scored his first goal as a Crusader just 40 seconds into the match.
- Converse answered with an equalizer in the 13th minute.
- Leo Harbottle pulled the Crusaders back ahead with his first goal as a Crusader in the 25th minute.
- The see-saw battle continued as the Valkyries scored again in the 33rd minute to pull even at 2-2.
- In the second half, Converse went ahead in the 54th minute.
- Marcos Frias scored the first of his two goals in the 75th minute to pull the Crusaders back even off a Darren Lawlor assist.
- Frias scored again just over three minutes later to put Belmont Abbey ahead.
- Converse got another equalizer with just over seven minutes remaining.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 14 shots, six on target.
- Trent McConnaughey made four saves during the match.
