BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Lees-McRae Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. It is the second time this season that the Crusaders and Bobcats have finished with a draw.
Sam Reynolds tallied his goal early in the contest for the Crusaders while the Bobcats rallied with the equalizer in the second half. It is the third draw in the last four contests for the Abbey.
With Wednesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 4-3-4 overall and 3-2-4 in Conference Carolinas play. Lees-McRae is 2-2-7 overall and 2-2-4 in the league. Both teams have identical 1-1-4 records in Northwest Division play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey's goal came on a Reynolds header in the seventh minute. It is his team-best sixth goal of the season.
- He scored on the assist from Ethan Cain as the Crusaders capitalized on a defensive miscue from the Bobcats.
- The Crusaders had a 9-4 advantage on shots in the first 45 minutes. Reynolds had four while Pat Hissim had three.
- The equalizer for Lees-McRae came in the 58th minute of the contest.
- Trent McConnaughey made four saves for the Abbey, all of which came in the second half.
- Both teams finished with 12 shots and three corner kicks for the match.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will play their final nonconference match of the season with a contest against Shaw Saturday at Alumni Field on Senior Night.
- The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
- Nine seniors will be recognized in a pre-match ceremony.
