FLORENCE, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team continued its road trip across South Carolina with a match at No. 18 Francis Marion Saturday afternoon at Hartzler Field.
The Crusaders battled but a pair of first-half goals proved to be the difference as the Abbey fell 2-0 to the Patriots. The contest was a rematch of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship match. Additionally, the match was counted as a nonconference contest.
Belmont Abbey is now 7-4-1 following Saturday's match while Francis Marion remains unbeaten with a 10-0 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sabrina Cunha took the first shot of the match for the Crusaders eight minutes in.
- After both teams were locked in a defensive battle, the Patriots got on the board with their first goal in the 24th minute.
- Francis Marion added its second goal in the 42nd minute.
- Francesca Highton accounted for the only shot on goal for the Abbey early on in the second half.
- Jadyn Radestock had the other shot on the day for the Crusaders.
- Ryleigh Dougherty finished with two saves in goal for Belmont Abbey.

- Belmont Abbey returns home for its penultimate home match of the season as the Crusaders host Lees-McRae next Wednesday.
