SALISBURY, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team returned to action Saturday evening in a nonconference contest against Montevallo at Catwaba's Frock Field.
The Crusaders and Falcons battled but it was a goal in the closing minutes of the match for Montevallo that resulted a 1-0 defeat for the Abbey.
Belmont Abbey is now 0-1-1 on the season. Montevallo is now 1-0-1 after the opening weekend of matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders had to withstand a flurry of shots from Montevallo in the early stages of the match.
- Bjorn Sigurdsson took the opening shot of the match for the Abbey in his first start of the season.
- Thomas Binkowski accounted for the lone shot on goal of the night late in the first half.
- Mark Shoebridge scored the only goal of the match with just over three minutes remaining.
- Sam Jordan led the Crusaders with two shots and was one of seven players to record a shot.
- Goalkeeper Will Whitman finished with seven saves for the second straight match.
