HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey opened its women's volleyball season Friday with a split of two early afternoon matches at the 2024 Coker Cobras Classic. The Crusaders dropped the opening affair 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-17) to Wingate before rallying for a 3-2 reverse sweep against West Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 (23-25, 18-25, 29-27, 25-22, 16-14).
The Crusaders improved to 1-1 with the result.

THE WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYANÂ MATCH
- Teter, a senior, had a career-high 25 kills, against five errors in 50 attempts (.400 hitting percentage). Her kill total was fourth-highest all-time and in a five-set encounter.Â
- Case added 16 kills, while Ava Brown registered eight.
- Shellenberg finished the contest with 43 assists and two aces, while Youngblood added 15 assists.
- Nickol led the Crusaders with three aces, while Brown and Coghlan added two each.Â
