MT. GILEAD, N.C. — Belmont Abbey freshman
Will Muldoon put together a strong opening round in his collegiate debut as the Belmont Abbey men's golf team opened play at the Jack Ingram/Pfeiffer Fall Invitational Monday at Tillery Tradition Golf Club.
Muldoon shot an even-par round of 72 and is one shot back of Southern Virginia's Nikko Taggart (-1) after the first 18 holes of play. The freshman made three birdies on the day en route to the strong opening round.
The Crusaders have two teams competing at the event with the Belmont Abbey D and C teams sitting in sixth and eighth place, respectively, after team rounds of 313 and 315. Five of the 10 Abbey golfers competing finished with rounds in the 70s with
John Dodrill and
Dylan Reiser opening with rounds of 76 and 77, respectively.
Brodie Perry and
Amanvir Nerwan had rounds of 78 and 79, respectively, for the Abbey.
Southern Virginia leads the team even with a team total of 292 followed by host Pfeiffer (300) and North Carolina Wesleyan.
