MURFREESBORO, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team went back on the road to take on Chowan Saturday afternoon at the Chowan Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.
The Crusaders took 11 shots and four on target but it was Chowan who earned the 2-0 victory.
It was the first completed match played by the Crusaders after Tuesday's match against North Greenville was suspended due to inclement weather.
With the result, Belmont Abbey is now 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Chowan also has a 2-3-2 overall record and 1-2-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chowan got on the board in the eighth minute on a Sam Deacon goal.
- Belmont Abbey's Alex Ljusberg took the first shot of the match for the Crusaders in the 18th minute. He took four of the Abbey's 10 shots on the day.
- The Hawks added a second goal on a penalty kick in the second half.
- Pa Njie and Endre Hetland made their first starts of the season for the Abbey.
- Emrick Stanley also made his first appearance for the Crusaders this year.
- Will Whitman had three saves on the day for the Abbey.
