BELMONT, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team took a season-high 21 shots led by five from
Sam Jordan, but it was King who came away with a 1-0 victory over the Crusaders Wednesday night at Alumni Field.
Belmont Abbey is now 2-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in Conference Carolinas play. King is now 2-4-1 overall with an identical 1-3-1 mark in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes despite taking a combined 13 shots.
- Belmont Abbey had eight shots in the first half with Jordan accounting for the lone shot on goal.
- Will Whitman made three of his five saves In the first half.
- The lone goal of the match came in the 54th minute for the Tornado on a breakaway.
- The Abbey had five shots on target including two each from Jordan and Josh Ainge. Pat Hissim accounted for the other shot on goal.
- Adam Cooil had four shots for the Abbey as well.
UP NEXT
- Belmont Abbey hosts Conference Carolinas newcomer Shorter at 3 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Field in the annual homecoming match.
- It will mark the second of three straight home matches scheduled for the Crusaders.
