Crusaders Battle to Scoreless Draw With Bobcats

BANNER ELK, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas play Wednesday at Tate Field.
 
The contest marked the first Northwest Division match for both teams. It also marked the third time in the last five contests the two programs have finished in a draw.
 
With Wednesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Lees-McRae is 2-2-1 overall with an identical 1-0-1 mark in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out firing early with the first three shots of the match all on target.
  • Belmont Abbey had eight shots for the match led by four from Gabriela Enciso. Lees-McRae had seven shots in the match.
  • Mia Muckenthaler also had two shots for the Crusaders, both on target.
  • The Crusaders had five corner kicks compared to three for the Bobcats.
  • Brianna Sroka tallied her first shutout of the season with three saves.
  • Each team had shots in the final 10 minutes of the match but were turned away.
  • The Crusaders preserved the shutout thanks to Austin Bowling turning the ball away at the goal line with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey returns home to face Converse at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Alumni Field.
  • Saturday's contest begins a stretch in which the Abbey plays four of its next five matches at home.
