Crusaders Earn 2-0 Victory over Wasps in Home Opener

BELMONT, N.C. — Anna Richárd and Reagan Cullen each scored goals while Haley Long added two assists as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer earned a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
 
Wednesday's contest marked the home opener for the Crusaders.
 
Both goals for the Abbey came int the first half as It earned its first win of the 2024 campaign to move to 1-1 on the season. The Wasps are also 1-1 following the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders' first goal came in the 19th minute when Long's shot was saved by Emory & Henry before Richárd put the rebound in the back of the net.
  • Cullen added the second goal just over four minutes later as she scored off a Long pass in the box.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots and 7-4 in shots on goal.
  • Four players took two shots for the Crusaders: Cullen, Long, Sabrina Cunha and Grace Gilmore.
  • Brianna Sroka made four saves on the evening and earned her sixth career shutout.
  • The Crusaders also had six corner kicks in the match.
 
UP NEXT
  • Belmont Abbey opens Conference Carolinas play at Emmanuel on Saturday.
  • The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start from Franklin Springs, Georgia.
  • The next home match for the Abbey will be Saturday, September 21 against Converse.
