SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Freshman
Isabel Stankiewicz scored her first collegiate goal as the Belmont Abbey field hockey team opened South Atlantic Conference play Tuesday evening against Converse at Weisiger Stadium.
Stankiewicz's goal came late in the contest as the Crusaders tried to rally before falling 2-1 in the contest.
With Tuesday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in South Atlantic Conference play while Converse is 2-0 both overall and in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Converse got on the board first via a penalty corner 9:30 into the contest.
- Belmont Abbey's first shot of the game came from Casey Etter early in the second quarter.
- The Valkyries extended the lead to 2-0 thanks to a goal in the early moments of the second half.
- The Crusaders tried to put together a rally and finished with five shots in the fourth quarter along with six penalty corners in the period.
- Belmont Abbey had a 12-9 advantage in shots and 13-6 in penalty corners.
- Etter, Chloe Kiser and Jessica Rybicki had two shots each for The Abbey.
- Stankiewicz's goal came on a a penalty corner with McKinley Soto earning her first collegiate assist as well.
- Chloe Parker finished with four saves on the evening.
